Tips to survive: Before, during and after earthquakes

At the life-or-death moment, you will realised a little tip may increase your chance of living. Below safety tips for earthquake will not make you an expert, but make you more prepared when the disaster occurs.

Before the earthquake

Learn how to survive during the ground motion. This is described in the “During the Earthquake” section below. The earthquake safety tips there will prepare you for the fast action needed – most earthquakes are over in seconds so knowing what to do instinctively is very important.
Teach all members of your family about earthquake safety. This includes: 1) the actions you should take when an earthquake occurs, 2) the safe places in a room such as under a strong desk, along interior walls, and 3) places to avoid such as near windows, large mirrors, hanging objects, heavy furniture and fireplaces.
Stock up on emergency supplies. These include: battery operated radio (and extra batteries), flashlights (and extra batteries), first aid kit, bottled water, two weeks food and medical supplies, blankets, cooking fuel, tools needed to turn off your gas, water and electric utilities.
Arrange your home for safety: Store heavy objects on lower shelves and store breakable objects in cabnents with latched doors. Don’t hang heavy mirrors or pictures above where people frequently sit or sleep.
Anchor heavy appliances and furniture such as water heaters, refrigerators and bookcases.
Store flamable liquids away from potential ignition sources such as water heaters, stoves and furnaces.
Get Educated. Learn what to do during an earthquake (see below). Then you will be ready for the fast action needed. Make sure that all members of your family have this important education.
Learn where the main turn-offs are for your water, gas and electricity. Know how to turn them off and the location of any needed tools.
You should know the way to the nearest medical care centers.

During the Earthquake

If you are indoors, stay there. Quickly move to a safe location in the room such as under a strong desk, a strong table, or along an interior wall. The goal is to protect yourself from falling objects and be located near the structural strong points of the room. Avoid taking cover near windows, large mirrors, hanging objects, heavy furniture, heavy appliances or fireplaces.
If you are cooking, turn off the stove and take cover.
If you are outdoors, move to an open area where falling objects are unlikely to strike you. Move away from buildings, powerlines and trees.
If you are driving, slow down smoothly and stop on the side of the road. Avoid stopping on or under bridges and overpasses, or under power lines, trees and large signs. Stay in your car.

After the Earthquake

Check for injuries, attend to injuries if needed, help ensure the safety of people around you.
Check for damage. If your building is badly damaged you should leave it until it has been inspected by a safety professional.
If you smell or hear a gas leak, get everyone outside and open windows and doors. If you can do it safely, turn off the gas at the meter. Report the leak to the gas company and fire department. Do not use any electrical appliances because a tiny spark could ignite the gas.
If the power is out, unplug major appliances to prevent possible damage when the power is turned back on. If you see sparks, frayed wires, or smell hot insulation turn off electricity at the main fuse box or breaker. If you will have to step in water to turn off the electricity you should call a professional to turn it off for you.

Vietnam owns the best new golf course in the world

The World Golf Awards in Portugal has granted “World’s Best New Golf Course” prize to Ba Na Hills Golf Club, marking the consecutive 2 years of Vietnam’s golfcourse holding this prestigious prize.

At the annual World Golf Awards ceremony which was held in the Algarve last week, Ba Na Hills Golf Club, an IMG-managed Luke Donald design on the outskirts of the blossoming central coast city of Danang, won the coveted distinction. Last year, it was The Bluffs Ho Tram Strip, a Greg Norman creation.

As with previous years, “World’s Best New Golf Course” was determined by an online survey conducted between April and October, during which time more than 1.1 million votes were cast from 216 countries/territories.

“IMG is honored that a course we designed with Luke Donald, and fully manage, has won this prestigious award,” said Paul Burley, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Golf Course Services for IMG. “It brings to life the vision we duly shared with the club’s owner, Sun Group, to create one of the best golf courses and golf experiences in the world.”

The course sits at the foot of a towering mountain range, on a hilly piece of terrain accentuated by lakes, streams and lush vegetation.

Among the course’s standout features are its flexibility – the course can play long, short or anywhere in between, thanks to five sets of tee boxes, and its views.

To further differentiate itself, Ba Na Hills Golf Club has one of the most impressive practice facilities the country has ever seen, and state-of-the-art floodlights on the course allowing for night golf.

Novotel Nha Trang makes soap for hope

(#wanderlusttips #NovotelNhaTrang #Soapforhope) Novotel Nha Trang in the collaboration with Sealed Air has launched the second event of Soap for Hope at the Rehabilitation & Education Center for Disabled Children of Khanh Hoa Province.

20 disable children have been taught how to make recycled soap in 4-step: slicing, cleaning, compressing and packaging the soap. After 1 hour, the children made 79 pieces of soap.

The next session was to get the hotel-staying tourists involved in soap making process. The step targeted to package 500 pieces of soap for sales. The pieces of soap displayed are recycled from used and discarded soaps contributed by Novotel Nha Trang.

The hotel has started selling the soap since November 11, 2016 at minimum 50,000VND/piece. The revenue will be totalized and announced on December 3, 2016 and will be donated to the Center.

In the visit to the school of disabled children, Novotel Nha Trang also presented books and toys at the value of 3,600,000VND.

Soap for Hope is the anual charity held by Novotel Nha Trang. The first event was in 2015, with 500 pieces of soap sold out, contributing 2,600,000VND to the children in need.

Sustaining the environment has also been important with the estate promising that they have left “nature in its most pristine and striking state”. India is the world’s second largest producer of tea after China with 1.2 million tonnes of it produced every single year. However, not as much of that tea is exported as might be expected and 80% of the produce remains at home and is consumed domestically.
