21ST-CENTURY CHAPEL OF BOSJES, WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA

Located in the beautiful Bosjes Estate, Western Cape, South Africa, the 21st-century Bosjes Chapel boasts impressive architecture that has been inspired by an epic scene of breathtakingly undulating mountains. The whole structure is a meticulous combination of special concrete plates that form a curvy roof and glass walls. The front of the chapel is surrounded by water, which only adds to the surreal and serene vibe of this unique piece of architecture. From a distance, the Chapel of Bosjes seems to hover low above the tranquil valley, embracing the stunning natural surroundings. Its meticulous attention to detail intrigues a lot of travellers.

CHURCH OF SELIGER PATER RUPERT MAYER, POING GERMANY

Completed in 2018 by Meck Architekten, Seliger Pater Rupert Mayer, one of the most impressive 21st-century churches, looks like a giant crown, making it a signature landmark in the town of Poing, near the southern German city of Munich. The most outstanding design is the asymmetric white roof. What’s more, the collection of around 15,000 moulded ceramic tiles and grey stone walls give the church an enchanting appearance. You will also notice that this piece of architecture retains the traditional elements of a steeple topped by a gilded cross and rooster. Inspired by minimalistic décor, every corner of the church exudes a simplistic beauty with plain wooden pews to seat 220 people. Despite the minimalist approach, the church embodies a cosy atmosphere for any devotee.

COMMUNITY CHURCH – A PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE IN KNARVIK,  NORWAY

Inspired by the traditional stave churches of Norway, the Community Church of Knarvik is one of the most strikingly impressive structures on the northern coast in the western city of Bergen. Constructed out of a rocky cliff, the structure encompasses the perfect blend of architecture, people and nature. With its unique sculptural structure, the church is truly a great masterpiece. Completed in 2014 by Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter, the Community Church of Knarvik is a favourite destination with cultural and contemporary art values ​​of the Christian community in Norway.

21ST-CENTURY CHURCH OF PAULUSKERK, ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS

A far cry from the famous traditional churches in the Netherlands, the Pauluskerk Church – the work of the late and famous architect Will Alsop  impresses with its unique boldness that forms a multifaceted building consisting of brown triangular shapes located on the main road of the port city of Rotterdam. As soon as you arrive, you can get a feel for the airy ambience thanks to the tall ceilings, white walls and the beautiful light flooding in from the triangular windows. Built in 2013, Pauluskerk Church and Calypso – a modern complex including shopping malls, shops and residential accommodations contribute to the  urbanisation strategy of the city.

EL SEÑOR DE LA MISERICORDIA CHURCH, MONTERREY, MEXICO

Located in the heart of the new urban area of ​​Monterrey, Mexico, El Señor de la Misericordia boasts a unique polygonal structure reminiscent of a crystal block rising up in to the blue sky. The structure features all the elements of a traditional Catholic church such as a 43m bell tower, a public square yet the furniture has all been modernised to cement the religious building solidly in the 21^st century. With a capacity of  350 people, this church is the venue for major religious events in the locality. Designed by the Moneo Brock Architecture Company, El Señor de la Misericordia Church is an attractive destination for both domestic and foreign travellers when visiting the beautiful city of Monterrey.

MIHO CHAPEL – MARVEL AT A WORK OF ARCHITECTURE IN KOGA CITY, JAPAN

Located in Koga City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan, the 21st-century chapel of Miho is an impressive architectural work with a striking funnel-shaped design. The church’s exterior is entirely made of stainless steel measuring 18.5 m long. The ceiling, walls, floors and furniture are made of timber. In addition, there is a 12m-diametre chandelier suspended above the pews like a giant halo to bring a unique oomph to this traditional chapel. The Miho Chapel is the last work of world-famous architect I.M. Pei and was completed in 2012.
