[rpi]CIOPPINO IS A FEAT OF SAN FRANCISCO FOOD
Originated in the North Beach area of San Francisco by Italian immigrants in the 19th century, Cioppino is similar to the Bouillabaisse, a classic French soup including a medley of seafood from the Mediterranean region. Depending on where you get it, this seafood stew includes clams, mussels, squid, shrimp, Dungeness crab, scallops and fish along with garlic, onion, wine, tomatoes and herbs. People say that the dish’s name comes from the word “cupping”, meaning “to chop” or “chopped”. The dish is typically served with wine and sourdough bread.
