Boeing to give passengers feeling of space with new planes’ interiors

(#wanderlusttips #Boeing) Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has just revealed its plan to renew its plane interiors when they have been reported to to patent a new system of using such images as clouds stars and blue skies onto its planes’ interior surfaces.

[rpi]

Quartz reports that the airline manufacturer has recently filed for the new copyright under a move to bring mood-lighting to travel. According to psfk.com, if the company gets the green light, their jets will be the only ones with permission to use images in this way.

It is believed that they will feature blue sky images and fluffy clouds in daytime flights, with stars and constellations as part of their night flight experience. Traditionally, plane cabins are lit for functional, not aesthetic reasons with fluorescent light and stark overhead reading lamps.

The new plan focuses on being more attractive to plane buyers, as demands in the airline industry change towards smaller craft that cost less to run. Airlines are operating at a time of unprecedented low airfares, due to the rise in the number of budget carriers operating globally. Enhanced cabin backdrops hope to give the impression of more spacious surroundings and a more comfortable flying experience.

A spokesman for Boeing said that with new technologies, it is now exploring possibilities to see if passenger experience and carrier economics could both be served and advanced at the same time. According to Taggit.news, the spokesman added that by enhancing lighting on walls and bulkheads, airlines could also provide destination data for their passengers to allow them to plan their activities in advance of arrival.

Wanderlust Tips Magazine | How a 29 year old English man makes money to travel the world

How a 29 year old English man makes money to travel the world

(#wanderlusttips #Backpackerlife) Being fed up with a boring 9-5 job, Tommy Walker started his journey since he was over 20. Although having the inheritance from his father, Tommy Walker has still found ways to earn money to keep travelling.

[rpi]

In 2011, his father died, leaving Walker and his brother an inheritance through his workplace that Walker chose to split into pieces: about 60% on longer-term investments, and 30% on travel, starting with an ambitious trip to Southeast Asia.

Wanderlust Tips Magazine | How a 29 year old English man makes money to travel the world

I’ve always been lucky enough to find work and make money,” he said, “so once I started this travel journey, I always felt that I’d always find money if I wanted to buy something later on.”

Below, Walker explained the gritty reality behind long-term travel, why you don’t need a windfall to leave home, and how he now affords to stay on the road.

Bangkok was the first place he booked a travel to as his father, a Buddhist, wished later in life that he would have traveled more. “That feeling of being in Asia, I’ll never get that back,” Walker reflected. “Any traveler who’s been traveling for more than two years will say you can’t get that initial feeling back — you’re naive and you don’t really know a lot, and everything is new and there’s no expectation. Southeast Asia is perfect for that, because it’s so different to Western culture. It’s such an incredible vortex to be pushed into.”

Walker moved to Australia to find a job and saved money after 10 months in the Southeast Asia. Melbourne was the place he ended up in with two jobs: a day job working in IT, and a part-time gig as a host at a restaurant.

“The minimum wage in Australia is about 17USD an hour, and some people make 25USD,” he said of the restaurant job. He began picking up more and more shifts, until he was working 80-hour weeks. In 8 months, he saved 22,000USD and got ready for the next 11-month trips to South America, starting with the 2014 World Cup in Rio.

Peru, Guyana, and Venezuela were some destination after 1 month in Brazil. He favors countries, like Guyana and Venezuela, that are off the beaten path and don’t attract much tourism, he said.

Wanderlust Tips Magazine | How a 29 year old English man makes money to travel the world

Beside stepping his feet on different places, he began setting up Facebook pages for backpackers through areas like South America, Europe, Australia, and Colombia that ultimately attracted over 120,000 followers, and pitching travel sites to write about his adventures.

Unlike many long-term travelers, he didn’t choose to set up a blog. Instead, he parlayed his Facebook groups into occasional free accommodation in exchange for marketing posts offering opportunities for the backpackers, and turned the writing gigs he secured into more work for travel companies. He’s done it backwards, he said — his website only launched in September.

In 2015, his freelance work was in great progress and he’s now in the position to support himself on his writing income alone. However, he points out, if he wants to continue working as a travel writer, he has to keep moving. “Before, it was an adventure,” he said. “Now, if I want to keep being a freelancer living a nice lifestyle, it’s more of a necessity.

He’s got back to Australia with his restaurant job before shorter-term trips to places like Fiji, France, Mexico, and Cuba. He recently relocated to New Zealand on a year-long working visa, and intends to combine a day job and freelance work to save up for his next long-term adventure which he hopes to be a two-year backpacking excursion through Africa.

One misconception about a life of travel, he says, is that it’s all sweeping views and hammocks on the beach. Much of it is navigating unfamiliar situations, logistical complications, and uncomfortable moments. “Travel is not meant to be easy,” he said. “It never was. That’s a holiday.

25 secret destinations revealed by Lonely Planet Magazine

(#wanderlusttips #Secretdestinations) Boasting crystal clear waters and oozing with history, Malta has been revealed as one of 25 top “secret” destinations listed by Lonely Planet Magazine.

[rpi]

The sunny archipelago, located in the central Mediterranean between Sicily and the North African coast, beat 24 other destinations to the top spot.

Wanderlust Tips Magazine | 25 secret destinations revealed by Lonely Planet Magazine

Abigail Blasi, a guidebook author and specialist on the country, said people shouldn’t dispel it for being a hot spot with ‘elderly tour groups’ as the there has been an emergence of new architecture, restaurant launches and hotel openings over recent years.

The face of the city is evolving… Meanwhile, Malta’s smaller sibling Gozo – an island of steep cliffs and quiet inlets over the water – is home to some of Europe’s best scuba diving”, added she.

Coming in second on Lonely Planet’s list of 25 “travel secrets” was Seoul. Megan Eaves, the guidebook’s destination editor for North Asia, said the South Korean city definitely gets her vote for being ‘one of the hippest places in the world right now.

She praised it for its amazing food scene and efficient metro system.

For the outdoors types, she notes that there are also excellent winter sports and summer hiking in the mountains that surround the metropolis.

Vojvodina in Serbia slid in at third place.

Brana Vladisavljevic, Lonely Planet’s destination editor for Southeastern and Eastern Europe, said the Northern province is ‘so off the tourist radar that you really feel like one of the locals’.

She applauded the region for being rich in art and history. Her appraisal also highlights the outdoor activities on offer, ranging from horseback riding to the more sedate activity of bird-watching.

Wanderlust Tips Magazine | Jal Mahal: Jaipur’s Submerged Water Palace

Jal Mahal: Jaipur’s Submerged Water Palace

(#wanderlusttips #Jahmahal #India) Submerged in the waters of an artificial lake, in the “pink city” of Jaipur, in the state of Rajasthan, India, is the beautiful marbled palace of Jal Mahal, or “Water Palace”.

[rpi]

Not much is known about its history, except the fact that it was constructed by Maharaja Madho Singh in the 18th century —the precise date is unknown— as a place for his duck hunting parties. Later, Madho Singh’s son, Madho Singh II, enlarged the palace by adding a courtyard. Then, it fell into disuse and remained terribly neglected for two centuries until its recent renovation in the 2000s.

Wanderlust Tips Magazine | Jal Mahal: Jaipur’s Submerged Water Palace

Jal Mahal is a curious structure. It’s not exactly a palace, because there are no habitable rooms to stay. Just a terrace garden where the Maharaja took leisurely walks. The palace is actually five stories tall, but only the top floor stays above water. The lower four floors remain mostly submerged when the lake is full.

Jal Mahal is a blend of different architectural styles, such as Rajput and Mughal, which is actually very common across Rajasthan. Rajput architecture is mostly inspired by traditional Hindu architecture, while Mughal architecture is heavily influenced by Islamic and Persian styles. You can see bits of both in Jal Mahal. The hallways and grand chambers on the first floor are gracefully decorated with beautiful paintings. On the terrace of the palace, there is a garden with arched passages. At each corner of this palace are semi-octagonal towers with an elegant cupolas. At the center of the terrace is a Bengali-style rectangular pavilion called a Chhatri.

Wanderlust Tips Magazine | Jal Mahal: Jaipur’s Submerged Water Palace

The artificial lake, Man Sagar, in the middle of which Jala Mahal stands, was constructed in 1610 by Raja Man Singh, the then ruler of Amer, in response to a famine and acute shortage of water that plagued his state at the end of the previous century. In order to prevent such a reoccurrence, Raja Man Singh ordered a dam to be built across Dharbawati river, along with a reservoir, the Man Sagar Lake, for water storage. For decades, the lake provided the inhabitants of the region with water for drinking and irrigation. It was also home to a large number of bird species.

But in the last century, the lake became a dumping ground for raw, untreated sewage and other industrial wastes. The filthy water and the stink kept visitors away from this otherwise splendid monument.

Wanderlust Tips Magazine | Jal Mahal: Jaipur’s Submerged Water Palace

In 2004, a privately owned company took over the whole area of the lake including Jal Mahal with the intention of turning it into a resort and a tourist destination. For the past decade, the company has been busy cleaning the lake and restoring the palace, and the results have been positive. The water quality has improved and the birds have returned.

Jal Mahal is still not open to tourists, although you can enjoy the view of the palace by boating in the lake.
