Shilin Stone Forest is known for its exotic stone formations, making it a geographical one-off, a sort of giant precious art gallery of natural stone formations. Located nearly 120km from Kunming and recognised as a World Heritage Site, the forest offers plenty of splendid vantage points. Your imagination can run wild with so many uniquely-shaped rocks that look like pyramids, temples or even animals. Notably, Mount Huaguo (The Mountain of Flowers and Fruits) – the Sun Wukong’s homeland in the famous film Journey to the West – also drew inspiration from Shilin Stone Forest.
