We put 15 pieces of Samsonite luggage through their paces, and these are our favorites. This is the 5 best Samsonite luggage of 2023 in our opinion.
[rpi]Since 1910, Samsonite has been producing high-quality suitcases and is one of the most trusted luggage brands in the travel industry. It is also one of the oldest luggage manufacturers. Samsonite manufactures luggage for all types of travelers, from carry-ons to backpacks. Our Wanderlust Tips testing team tried out over many pieces of luggage, including 15 Samsonite bags, over the course of several months. To find the best luggage on the market, we evaluated carry-ons, checked bags, backpacks, duffels, and weekender bags based on features such as capacity, design, maneuverability, and durability. Our list of the best Samsonite luggage pieces included nine bags, including carry-on and checked bags, as well as backpacks.

Leading Carry-on: Samsonite Freeform Carry-on at Amazon
We believe that the Samsonite Freeform Hardside Expandable Carry-on is the best carry-on we’ve ever tried. It received the highest marks in every category we tested. When we hit the impact-resistant plastic outside with a bat several times during our durability tests, it held up very well. “I wouldn’t mind having it checked at the gate if I’m in group nine and there’s no more overhead bin space available,” our tester observed. We like the exterior’s simple design, and there’s a TSA-approved lock on the side that’s simple to use. We would have liked to see one or two more pockets for additional organization on the interior, which has several pockets and compression straps. We were able to fit enough clothes for a four-day trip without having to use the handy expandable zippers, and even when fully loaded, the wheels rolled smoothly and the sturdy handle was easy to grip.

Leading Underseater: Samsonite Unisex Adults Carry-on Spinner with USB Port at Amazon
If you’re flying on an airline with strict luggage restrictions or going on a quick business trip, underseat luggage like this one from Samsonite is practical and functional. Between the main compartment, the front zippered pocket, and the two side pockets, we were able to fit enough clothes for a two-day trip. Furthermore, there is a USB charging port on the bag’s side for charging your device in an airport.
We wheeled the bag around cones set up as an obstacle course during our maneuverability tests, and we were impressed with how smoothly the wheels rolled and turned around tight corners. Our tester praised the sturdy extendable handle, saying “you would be able to seamlessly transition to different flooring, elevators, escalators, and stairs.” While it took a little extra effort to get the suitcase under the seat, it fit perfectly.

Leading Lightweight: Samsonite Omni PC Carry-on at Amazon
Carry-ons can be difficult to maneuver into overhead bins, so opt for a lightweight suitcase, such as Samsonite Omni PC Expandable Carry-on. This 20-inch suitcase weighs slightly more than 6 pounds and is made of a micro-diamond polycarbonate material that proved to be very durable during testing, despite the carry-lightweight on’s feel. Our tester repeatedly hit the exterior with a baseball bat, and there were no scratches or scuffs left. The inside of the suitcase’s simple clamshell design made packing intuitive and easy, with just the right amount of pockets and space for storing several outfits and shoes. Similarly to other Samsonite suitcases we’ve tried, the smaller wheels make it easier to wheel this one on two wheels rather than four, but we still think it can get around an airport without too much trouble.

Leading checked: Samsonite Hardside Luggage at Amazon
The Samsonite Winfield 2 Hardside Luggage, our reigning champion for the best checked bag we tried, wowed us in every category during testing. The exterior is made of a lightweight polycarbonate material, but even after several hits with a baseball bat, the exterior was not scratched or damaged, leading us to believe it will withstand rough handling in transit. We were able to pack outfits and shoes for nearly a week of travel, and we appreciate the compression straps and dividers on the inside compartments that secure the clothing once packed. “Even when fully stuffed, the bag retains its shape and size,” our tester said. Because “the wheels work wonderfully so you can push the suitcase in an upright position or pull it behind you,” our tester raved, we believe this is the ideal checked bag for navigating busy airports or streets.

Leading Laptop Backpack: Samsonite Xenon 3.0 Backpack at Amazon
The Samsonite Just Right Standard Backpack is a versatile laptop backpack that impressed us during testing, whether you’re commuting to work or flying on an airplane. The bag has a sleek and professional design, with soft leather accents and sturdy silver zippers. The backpack has a variety of pockets for organizing everything from a laptop to a phone charger, with easy access to the main compartment and a zippered laptop sleeve in the back, according to our tester. The laptop pocket has enough padding to not only protect a computer or tablet if the backpack is dropped from a tabletop, but also to provide comfort and cushioning while wearing the pack for extended periods of time. We believe that this bag is well-made, with durable materials and stitching that will withstand frequent travel or daily commuting.
