In the iconic, cosmopolitan allure of New York City’s most famous avenue, nostalgic nods to a bygone era of travel are set. Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts, one of Marriott Bonvoy’s 30 extraordinary brands, has opened Le Méridien New York, Fifth Avenue in New York City. Taking cues from the European-born brand’s mid-century modern design aesthetic, the chic hotel is a 21-story architectural masterpiece featuring 165 beautifully styled guest rooms and 17 apartment-style residences for longer stays.

“Le Méridien has always inspired travelers to explore the world in style and enjoy the good life through the lens of its European spirit,” said Jennifer Connell, Global Brand Leader, Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts, and Vice President, Distinctive Premium Brands, Marriott International. “What better city to continue this legacy than in Manhattan, with our second hotel in the destination?” “As we continue to celebrate the brand’s important 50th anniversary this year, we’re excited to grow our global presence and offer creative travelers who visit New York City a unique stay experience and stylish signature programs.”

Gene Kaufman Architect made the hotel, which has a light-colored masonry facade and a grid of windows with dark railings. These features are both traditional and modern. The interiors, which Paul Vega and Vennie Lau of the New Jersey-based design studio VLDG created, are a nod to the fact that the textile mercantile trade dominated the neighborhood in the 20th century. The design of the hotel is a mix of iconic New York City cultural elements and modern, mid-century design details. It has bold geometric patterns, contrasting colors, and textured fabrics. There is curated art all over the lobby, such as a luminous acrylic wall sculpture, a textile column that combines color blocks and patchwork to make a patterned field, and a scale map printed on wood acoustic walls. These are all important design elements.

Within the New York-inspired guest rooms, design takes shape with the brand’s signature mid-century modernism and custom murals that depict a map of Manhattan with connecting waterways. Featuring a color palette with shades of grey and blue with pink accents for a cohesive aesthetic, the rooms – six of which have walk-out terraces—include the Le Méridien signature bed, MALIN+GOETZ bath products, 4K smart TVs, an elevated desk inspired by higher surfaces used by creative individuals, and more.

As the center of the hotel’s public areas, the Le Méridien Hub is a place to meet and a modern take on the traditional hotel lobby. During the day, the signature Latitude/Longitude Bar serves custom-brewed coffee drinks, and in the evening, it serves sparkling cocktails. Allora, the restaurant on the property, is open all day and specializes in regional Italian aperitivi and food that changes with the seasons, like its signature Miller’s Wife pasta. Other features and services include a free health club with Life Fitness equipment that is open 24 hours a day, room service, and more.

Located on Fifth Avenue between West 30th and West 31st, the new hotel is near some of the city’s most notable sights, including the Empire State and Flatiron buildings, the NoMad district, Herald Square, and not to forget, the famed Fifth Avenue shopping, as well as many more must-see, can’t-miss attractions.
