At 2,979 metres above sea level, Ta Chi Nhu peak located in Tram Tau District, Yen Bai Province is the seventh-highest mountainous region in Vietnam. In spite of its complicated topography with a whole host of hair-raising slopes and the harsh climate, Ta Chi Nhu boasts a variety of magnificent natural surroundings intertwined with the alluring purple wildflowers.
For the best view from an altitude of nearly 2,500 metres above sea level, Chi Pau flowers endlessly stretch out across the whole peak. The purple flowers are usually in full bloom between October and November. The Mong ethnic people living around Ta Chi Nhu peak call the white-purple flower a miracle of Mother Nature.
In the last days of the year, Northwestern Vietnam becomes a popular destination for nature lovers. Standing on the top of the peak, you can feel the chilling wind as well as admiring the beautiful natural landscapes.
Featuring such tough terrain, Ta Chi Nhu is still a fascinating natural wonder, dubbed a white cloud paradise. In October and November every year, the peak is home to an abundance of Chi Pau wildflowers in the middle of the mountains. A variety of exotic flowers stretch out as far as the eyes can see, forming an out-of-this-world picture.
According to the original language of the Mong ethnic minority, “Chi Pau” means “I don’t know” or “I don’t understand”. Despite its meaningless name, the seductive charm of the Chi Pau flower really conquers the tourists’ hearts in Ta Chi Nhu.
The purple colour of the flower is not as dark as lavender flowers, yet intertwined with the slight white colour. When winter comes, the Chi Pau flowers form little bunches spanning across the mountainside. From a distance, the giant purple carpet hovering between the fluffy white clouds of Chi Po flowers makes a lasting impression on all tourists, even the most fastidious ones.
Aside from the stunningly beautiful flowers, tourists are particularly impressed with the path to the top of the mountain. Walking in the footsteps of the previous person is the only way to reach the peak. Notably, you should pack light and remember to wear a good pair of shoes and refresh your mind. Ta Chi Nhu is obviously a big challenge for climbers due to the winding bends and the hair-raising slopes.
However, a fleeting glimpse of the purple flowers makes you realise that your difficulty and hardship were completely worth it for this mesmerising sight.
