Metiseko introduces its new silk collection inspired by the Mekong River

From the river that nurtured a rich culture along its banks to an endless source of inspiration in photography, literature, and art – the Mekong now flows into fashion through Metiseko’s namesake silk collection.

Metiseko is a French-Vietnamese fashion brand born from a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, culture, and conscious design. Since 2011, the brand has created sustainable, high-quality clothing using premium natural fabrics like locally sourced mulberry silk or organic cotton certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) – the world’s leading standard for organic textile processing. Metiseko’s designs are known for their meaningful prints, versatile silhouettes, and a signature style that blends the elegance of French design with the richness of Vietnamese heritage.

MEKONG: The beauty of silk from cultural alluvium

With the launch of MEKONG, its latest silk collection, Metiseko continues this journey – drawing inspiration from the beauty of Vietnam’s iconic Mekong River and the artistic traditions that flow along its banks.

The MEKONG collection brings together two powerful sources of inspiration: the centuries-old beauty of Vietnamese lacquerware and the timeless charm of French Toile de Jouy – a storytelling fabric filled with detailed, scenic prints. The result is a collection that celebrates both heritage and modern elegance. Like the river it’s named after, MEKONG is a meeting point… of cultures, craftsmanship, and creativity.

The echo of lacquer in design

This lacquer technique, rooted in the heart of Mekong craftsmanship, becomes a metaphor for MEKONG’s design language: layered, luminous, and quietly powerful. The first act of the collection draws heavily from lacquer artistry in the Mekong Delta, particularly the meticulous technique of eggshell inlay on lacquered wood.

This intricate process begins with six to eight layers of hand-applied lacquer, followed by the delicate arrangement of crushed eggshells – each piece laid with meditative precision to create patterns that flow with rhythm and harmony. It’s a practice that demands patience, an eye for detail, and deep reverence for tradition.

Take a moment to observe, and you’ll catch glimpses of the distinctive spirit rooted in Vietnam’s Southwestern region that nurtured by the Mekong Delta: free, authentic, and effortlessly harmonious with nature. Future acts of the collection will continue to explore other lacquer styles from the region, keeping this artisanal spirit alive in new and unexpected ways.

Waves of Toile de Jouy’s imprint

In French, Toile de Jouy means ‘fabric from the Jouy region’ – a textile that charmed the French aristocracy in the 18th century with its delicate, narrative prints. A timeless symbol of elegance, Toile de Jouy has been reinterpreted by major fashion houses like Dior, offering a graceful nod to heritage in contemporary fashion. Toile de Jouy, with its narrative quality and delicate illustration, influences the collection’s original silk prints, bringing softness and story together in wearable form.

Crafted from smooth, breathable silk, MEKONG is perfectly suited to Vietnam’s tropical climate. Its items are thoughtfully designed to mix and match with ease – offering a polished yet relaxed presence for everyday moments, work settings, or life on the go.

Whether you’re drawn to the fluid movement of silk, the layered artistry of lacquerware, or the meaningful details in each print, MEKONG offers timeless pieces designed to feel as beautiful as they look. Explore the collection in-store and online. The journey begins now.
